A Hummer passed me on the expressway the other day going about 95 mph. It happened to be the same day that I saw gas for less than two dollars per gallon for the first time in about 12 years. I truly believe the guy in the Hummer was doing a high-speed victory lap around the city. I felt really happy for him. And I knew it was a confirmation of an important life lesson that we all learned as children: With a little hard work, a touch of patience, and plummeting oil prices triggered by decreased foreign demand and increased domestic produciton of natural gas and implementation of cutting-edge crude oil drilling techniqhes such as “fracking”, the purchase of a vehicle that gets 3 mpg (highway) will eventually seem like an OK choice.
(Hummer owners: I kid, I kid!)
