It was bath night in the Mullins home, which of course means our bathroom now resembles the deck of a 1970’s New England fishing schooner after a Great White shark has been cut open to assess its stomach contents: There is standing discolored water, a handful of small, half-eaten fish, the remains of a giant squid, a hubcap from a 1964 Studebaker, the left arm of a drunken New England fishing schooner captain, 6 Peruvian gold doubloons, a tie-dyed t-shirt with the words “Life’s a Beach” airbrushed over a dolphin silhouetted against the sun, an unexploded German U-boat mine, and a first draft of the Mayflower Compact.
It’s been a good night.
