Seeing as my family seems to believe winter is literally just around the corner (two of my children claimed they smelled snow in the air this morning), tonight we roasted marshmallows. Particularly as someone who loves fall, I always look forward to this activity. Until about 15 seconds into it, when I remember what roasting marshmallows with kids is like.
I get all uptight, and start saying things Smokey the Bear might say, things like:
“Smoke ain’t no joke!”
“You’ve gotta learn to avoid the burn!”
“If the stick is red, hands off instead!”
And of course,
“Only YOU . . . can prevent a flaming marshmallow from being flung onto your sister’s forehead!”
