Same-Same, Grandpa

I think it’s great that the rise of fitness bands and smartwatches has encouraged us to be more active. But, I can imagine, to some in the generations who came before us, these devices might be insulting. I’m glad I didn’t have to explain these items to my grandfather.

“What’s that on your wrist son?”

“Oh, this? Just a computer-type device that reminds me to get up every once in a while and walk around.”

“Well, that’s nice. Do you know what encouraged me to get up and walk around when I was your age? All the crucial tasks and jobs I had to do if my family was going to survive.”

“Don’t I know it, grandpa. Don’t I know it.”

Thanks for reading! Happy Wednesday!

(And, apparently, I cannot help reflecting with melancholy on smartwatches.)
