I think it’s great that the rise of fitness bands and smartwatches has encouraged us to be more active. But, I can imagine, to some in the generations who came before us, these devices might be insulting. I’m glad I didn’t have to explain these items to my grandfather.
“What’s that on your wrist son?”
“Oh, this? Just a computer-type device that reminds me to get up every once in a while and walk around.”
“Well, that’s nice. Do you know what encouraged me to get up and walk around when I was your age? All the crucial tasks and jobs I had to do if my family was going to survive.”
“Don’t I know it, grandpa. Don’t I know it.”
