A Call for Precision in Journalism

I saw an article headline that said, “A ton of people are experiencing issues with their iPhone.” Perhaps it’s the scientist in me, or maybe it’s the fact that I work with people who speak English as a second language, but this phrase is annoying and demonstrates how lazy we have become with communication.  Assuming the average American body weight of 185 pounds, a ton of people is approximately 11 people.

Eleven people are having issues with their iPhone. Is that really worth writing an entire article about?

C’mon, people.
